Create A Zero Waste Bathroom

How To Create A Zero-Waste Bathroom

There are a number of reasons we all seek ways to go zero-waste including the fact that zero-waste products save resources and reduce pollution. When most traditional items have been used up they are simply discarded in a landfill or incinerated. A zero-waste home on the other hand, conserves natural resources and decreases pollution caused by extraction of materials, manufacture of products, and disposal of those products.

One area of our homes where going zero-waste may be easy is our bathrooms. There are many zero-waste products we can choose from including zero-waste toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, soap and soap dishes, and even shampoo and conditioner. With so many wonderful options there is no reason we can’t move towards a zero-waste bathroom and know that we are doing our part to protect the environment.

Zero-Waste Bathroom Products

Bamboo Toothbrushes

We use toothbrushes morning and evening. The problem is that one billion plastic toothbrushes are thrown away every year. We don't want toothbrush garbage to be the legacy we leave for future generations. Bamboo toothbrush handles are completely biodegradable, and the bristles are completely recyclable, making them zero-waste. We will also find that the bamboo handle is lightweight and resilient, and the bristles are ideal for brushing. Furthermore, we may use bamboo toothbrushes with charcoal to thoroughly clean our teeth. We can all minimize plastic usage by switching to bamboo toothbrushes. Bamboo toothbrushes work well with zero-waste toothpaste and floss.

Toothpaste Tablets

Zero-waste toothpaste comes in tablet or powder form. Instead of plastic containers, this toothpaste comes in glass jars that can be recycled. Both toothpaste tablets and powders are toothpaste in a more condensed form. In addition to being easy to use, these types of toothpaste are convenient to store and travel with. Since toothpaste tablets and powders have water removed, they won’t leak and cause a mess. In addition, using these plastic-free toothpaste products is easy. We simply place a toothpaste tablet on our toothbrush and bite down or sprinkle our toothbrush with some toothpaste powder and brush like usual. Zero-waste toothpaste works well with bamboo toothbrushes and zero-waste floss.

Eco-Friendly Floss

Most floss found in stores is made with plastic and packaged in plastic packaging. Zero-waste floss on the other hand is made with natural products and comes in recyclable glass containers. One type of zero-waste floss is silk floss. Silk floss is gentle on our gums. Silk is also natural and environmentally friendly substance. The highest quality silk floss also contains vegan candelilla wax rather than petroleum or animal-based wax. Another type of zero-waste floss is bamboo floss. Bamboo charcoal dental floss removes plaque while brightening our teeth. Bamboo floss is much stronger than other traditional Eco-Friendly floss materials like maize fiber and silk, plus it is vegan.

Zero-Waste Soap Dishes

In the bathroom we might invest in a bamboo soap dish too. These are made of bamboo and can help us take our bathrooms one step closer to being zero-waste. Soap dishes allow our soap to dry out after each use so that it does not dissolve in a puddle of water. If we use a soap bar, we want to make sure we take care of it so it lasts a long time. If we are investing in a pleasant-smelling soap bar we should check to ensure we have an elegant zero-waste soap dish to show it off in our bathrooms.

Bamboo Toilet Paper

Bamboo toilet paper is in many ways better than traditional toilet paper. Bamboo toilet paper is tree-free and is made with bamboo fibers. Bamboo is known for being softer than cotton, and yet strong at the same time. Making it the perfect combination for a toilet paper. Bamboo toilet paper breaks down faster than traditional toilet paper for anyone out there wondering if bamboo toilet paper is septic safe. Bamboo is truly a wonder with just how versatile it is.

Shampoo And Conditioner Bars

Many of us have a favorite shampoo or conditioner that we apply in the shower to maintain our hair and keep our scalp healthy. This leaves us feeling refreshed and clean. Many shampoo and conditioner bars contain essential oils, which make us feel better inside and out. Essential oils like lavender can help us relax our bodies and minds, whereas citrus essential oils can help us energize and wake up our bodies and minds. Shampoo and conditioner bars also include natural ingredients that leave our hair healthy, shiny, and well-conditioned.

However, too frequently, the shampoo or conditioner we've previously used comes in a plastic bottle that can take up to 450 years to degrade. We want to keep ourselves clean and feel fresh without polluting the environment. This is why using zero-waste shampoos and conditioners is vital. Shampoo and conditioner bars outperform standard products in many ways. Shampoo and conditioner bars are extremely effective for treating hair and scalp issues. Also, unlike regular shampoo, these bars are easy to travel with and keep in our homes. Shampoo bars last up to 90 washes, making them affordable for everybody.
