Reusable Straws

It is common to find ourselves always on the move. We often find ourselves traveling to work, hanging out with friends, or even jogging outside so we can enjoy the wonder of nature. While going on each of these adventures we often want to make sure to stay hydrated so that we feel our best. All too often this means we grab some sort of beverage to go and with our beverage we grab a straw. Seek Bamboo offers a variety of eco-friendly & reusable straws

Straws can make it easier to drink while we are moving between activities and going about our busy day to day lives but all too often these straws are made from plastic. Plastic straws can take up to 200 years to break down, which means they quickly fill up our landfills. Yikes. The good news is we do not have to give up the convenience of straws if we want to reduce the amount of plastic we use.

There are a wide range of reusable straws that allow us to balance convenience with making a wise environmental choice. Four common types of reusable straws include bamboo straws, wheat straws, grass straws, and stainless-steel straws. These reusable straws meet any straw needs that we might have. So next time we find ourselves reaching for a plastic straw it is important that we think about how that choice might impact the planet and how we might choose a reusable straw instead.

Bamboo Straws:

When we are thinking about reusable straws one type that might come to mind are bamboo straws. These straws are made from the quick growing bamboo plant. Some bamboo plants grow so quickly to can watch them growing in real time. In addition, bamboo needs less water and chemicals to be grown making it more ecofriendly than many other crops. Bamboo is an amazing plant that can be used to make a whole range of eco-friendly household products. Bamboo straws are also 100% disposable and can be composted in our backyards.

Bamboo straws are useful because they are durable and can withstand high heat, which means we can use them in our hot beverages without having to worry that they will fall apart. No one wants the unpleasant sensation of finding bits of their straws in their beverages. Bamboo straws are a great choice if we want to have a reusable and compostable straw on hand for our next social gathering.

Wheat Straws

When we think about wheat, we probably think about breakfast cereal or bread so we might be surprised to learn that wheat can also be used to create straws. Surprisingly wheat straws are very durable. Not only are wheat straws a good alternative to plastic straws but they also help reduce air pollution because typically the husk of wheat is burned. This also means that when we choose wheat straws, we are proactively helping to reduce the ecological footprint of other wheat products we consume. Wheat straws are also biodegradable and can be placed in our compost piles when we are done with them, providing rich nutrient filled soil for our garden’s plants and flowers.

Grass Straws

Grass might seem like an odd choice to make a straw out of if we are thinking about the grass in our yards. In truth grass straws are made from several types of strong fibrous wild grasses which we might picture more like reeds. These wild grasses are collected, cut, and washed. Then the inner surface is cleaned, and they are left to dry in the sun. Finally, they get one more rinse and then are baked in an oven until they are ready to be used. Grass Straws are wonderful because they are plentiful, biodegradable, and eco-friendly. Choosing a grass straw is an easy step towards a zero-waste lifestyle.

Stainless Steel Straws

Stainless steel straws are our best choice if we are looking for a straw we can use again and again for years to come. Stainless steel straws are extremely durable. In addition, these straws are often collapsible which means they take up less space in our homes or in our pockets making them easier to travel with then other types of straws.

Stainless steel straws can be cleaned by using a small brush and many can even be put in the dishwasher making them one of the most reusable straws we can find. Stainless steel straws can also be recycled once they no longer are of use to us. This means that stainless steel straws are a great choice if we want to buy one straw and use it over and over again.
