How To Be Eco-Friendly

The long-term impacts of our lives on the planet have been on all our minds recently. We are all seeking ways we can be more eco-friendly every day. We want to leave this planet in better shape than when we found it. This can be challenging because it feels like everything in our lives is made from plastic and other non-biodegradable products. No matter where we look, or what room we are in, we are likely to be able to see something that comes in a plastic container or packaging. We sometimes stress that switching to non-plastic products will be challenging and expensive, but this is not true. Let us look at a few of the areas in our lives and homes where making the switch to eco-friendly products can be done with ease.

Eco-Friendly Dental Care

Keeping our teeth clean is important for both our physical and mental health. In addition, if we have the smile we want, we will find ourselves smiling more and feeling more at ease as we hang with friends and family. Sadly, when we walk into many of our bathrooms it can feel like everything we use to clean our teeth is made of plastic; plastic toothbrushes, plastic toothpaste containers, and even plastic dental floss, yikes.

But don’t stress, we can find eco-friendly alternatives to all these products, and continue to make sure our smiles are always shining. We can use an amazing selection of bamboo toothbrushes, toothpaste tablets, and silk and bamboo dental floss. These products also come in plastic free containers further reducing our plastic use. By making these small changes to our dental care routine we can feel good about ourselves and our smiles. Seek Bamboo offers an affordable way to remove plastic from your oral care routine....creating sustainable smiles

Eco-Friendly Bath and Shower

While we are in our bathrooms switching out our dental care products to eco-friendly alternatives, we might notice the many products that seem to collect in our showers. We all know the joys of a nice shower but even though some plastic shampoo, conditioner, and body wash bottles can be recycled, in the end most simply end up in the landfill polluting our communities. In truth, we don’t have to sacrifice our showers or lose the products we love as we switch to more sustainable options.

When we are trying to keep our skin, hair, and bodies clean we have many eco-friendly options. We might choose a great smelling shampoo bar, a conditioner bar which leaves our hair nice and shiny, or a bar of soap with a rich lather. We might choose a konjac sponge which is a great alternative to sponges that are made with petroleum products. Finally, if we want to add just an extra touch of elegance to our lives we might even add a bamboo shower mat to make our bathrooms feel more like a spa.

Eco-Friendly Laundry

Many of us find that fresh laundry smells and feels great against our skin. Too often though our laundry detergent and fabric softeners contain harsh chemicals and come in large plastic containers which are a pain to store and just more things to add to the landfill. On the other hand, we know we are probably not going to start washing all our laundry by hand either.

In this case we can switch to biodegradable laundry detergent which comes in non-plastic packaging. We can also easily switch to reusable dryer balls which naturally act like fabric softeners. Such dryer balls decrease the amount of time it takes our laundry to dry which has the bonus of reducing the energy we use to dry clothing. This means we can multitask and save our time and the planet at the same time.

Eco-Friendly Kitchen

Many of our kitchens are hotbeds for plastic products that we use without thinking. This does not have to be the case and there are many non-plastic alternatives we can use which are just as convenient. While we might be tempted to grab single use plastic wrap when we need to wrap or cover some leftovers, we can instead switch to beeswax wraps. Also, instead of adding to our collection of plastic bags every time we go to the grocery store, we can switch to reusable produce bags and grocery bags.

Sometimes we find ourselves reaching for plastic because we want the convenience that it brings. If we are having a picnic outside, hosting an event, or traveling we want products that are easy to deal with once we are done. This is a great time and place to use everything from bamboo straws to bamboo cutlery which once we are done with them can be put in our compost pile. No matter how we choose to reduce our plastic use we are making a positive long-term impact on the world.
